After many years of art study at every location that the US
Military decided we would live, we had finally settled down where we knew would be our
final home. Choosing Oklahoma has been a wonderful decision and a great place to live.
I began my art studies 33 years ago at the age of 18. Beginning with work in traditional
oils and doing landscapes ala Bob Ross and William Alexander.
With the encouragement of my instructor I began to study Decorative Art and within a year
was teaching the beginner's classes at her shop. I also began to take classes with many of
the leaders in the industry including Susan Scheewe, Priscilla Hauser, Gerry Cline, Jan
Schaeurman, Gail Anderson and too many others to list.
I've also taken many college art classes along the way. Wherever there was a class offered
I jumped on the bandwagon and dove right in. All of this while raising two very healthy
boys and moving from state to state and often to other countries.
Each time we had to move I would find the closest Tole Shop and take and teach as many
classes as I could. It was always hard to say goodbye but also so exciting to meet new
people in new areas and find out what was the most popular style, artist or technique
going.
Many wonderful opportunities would unfold at each new shop or location. If we were
somewhere that didn't have a shop I would run an ad and fill classes that I taught in my
home. Can you tell that I love to share? ;o)
With the introduction of the computer and the Internet my whole world has grown and I now
love being able to share with artists worldwide! What a wonderful age we live in! (Please
check out Tolefriends to learn
how to meet, share and learn from wonderful artists all over the world. Also you will want
to become a member of SDP
and keep up with all the wonderful accomplishments of this fantastic organization!)
I'm now working in bottled acrylics, acrylic gouache, traditional oils and Genesis
Heat-Set Oils. Teaching and even designing my own pattern packets.
I love all of the different mediums and the various styles of art. I do believe that
florals and still life are my favorites but when the opportunity to learn a new style or
technique comes along you can bet I'm right there to give it a try.
I just love learning from all the talented designers available to us today. There is so
much more out there for the decorative artist in today's market.
The manufacturers are making new and better products, amazing surfaces and so much more
all the time. There are so many sharing and caring artists to learn from and so many
sources for our education. It's a wonderful age for the Decorative Artist!Happy Hugs,
